Farmington Hills

country

Hong Hua Restaurant is celebrating 10
years in business and was named by Zagat as one of the top 100 Asian
Restaurants in America for 2011, the only Asian restaurant in
Michigan to be included in this list.
Hong Hua serves up Chinese/Asian specialties with a nuance of French
and Japanese accents.
Owner Danny Yu started in the restaurant business in his native
China 30 years ago, training as a chef, then moved to Montreal,
Quebec, in 1990 to open his own 110-seat Chinese restaurant.
In 2000, Yu moved to the United States and opened Hong Hua, a
7,000-square-foot restaurant at 27925 Orchard Lake Road, north of 12
Mile Road in Farmington Hills. The restaurant seats 150, including a
private banquet room, and employs 25 staff members, all from China.
Hong Hua grosses about $2 million per year in revenue and Yu expects
that number to rise as the popularity of authentic Chinese/Asian
restaurants increases. “People want and expect authentic dishes when
they come to Hong Hua,” says Yu. “We don’t serve the typical fare
served at Americanized Chinese restaurants.”
“Our master chef, Peter Chan, has 33 years in the restaurant
industry and specializes in authentic meals that are light,
flavorful and filled with lots of color,” he said. “Our recipes come
from our chef, some are traditional family favorites, and some come
from just experimenting with new ways of cooking and creating new
sauces with lots of flavor. We pair up our selections with a
fantastic wine list to make the perfect meal. We use white table
linens and real napkins — it’s all part of the presentation.”
Hong Hua has several house specialties, including Chilean Sea Bass
with ginger and XO sauce on a bed of snow pea pod leaves, Peking
duck with vegetables, and rib eye with a special “magic sauce.” The
price for lunch meals start at $9 and dinner meals at $20. Food is
also available a la carte.
Hong Hua is open for lunch at 11 a.m. Monday through Saturday, and
at noon on Sunday and holidays. The restaurant closes at 10:30 p.m.
Monday through Thursday, and at midnight from Friday to Sunday. Cash
and major credit cards are accepted. Reservations aren’t necessary
except for the banquet facility and parties of eight or more.
Catering is also available.
